In The 1900's ~
A treaty is signed between the United States and the Dominican Republic, causing the US to take over the Republic's customs in exchange for purchasing its debts.
In The 1910's ~
The US occupies the Dominican Republic and establishes a military government.
In The 1920's ~
The US leaves and the Dominican Republic establishes a democratically elected constitutional government.
In the 1930's ~
In The 1930's there was a hurricane called The Hurricane San Zenon which is the fifth deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record.




In The 1940's ~
The Dominican Republic was ruled dictatorially by a former cattle rustler, Rafael Leonid as Trujillo Molina, better known in the United States as simply Trujillo. He owned twenty homes, numerous businesses and one-fifth of his nation's agricultural land.

In The 1950's ~
During the 1950's small groups of fearless and brave, young Dominicans formed underground organisations dedicated to overthrowing the Trujillo regime.
In The 1960's ~
The Organization of American States (OAS) calls for a severance of diplomatic ties with the Dominican Republic.
In The 1970's ~
Señorita República Dominicana 1970 was held on January 24, 1970. There were 28 candidates who competed for the national crown. The winner represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss Universe 1970. The winner was Sobeida Alejandra Fernández Reyes.
In The 1980's ~
The government establishes economic recovery legislation, which includes an austerity program that raises prices for food and petrol. These measures lead to riots.
In The 2000's ~
The Dominican Republic becomes part of a free trade agreement between the US and five other Central American countries known as CAFTA-DR.
In The 1990's ~
The Dominican Republic goes into an economic depression.
In The 2010's ~
The government currently works to implant a new constitution, which has been referred to as "one of the most conservative constitutions in the region."[3] The Constitution was proclaimed on 26 January 2010.
